PiezoWave_01The PiezoWave of Richard Wolf combines orthopedic ESWT applications with TPST applications. Since the early 1990s, extracorporeal shockwaves have been successfully used to treat chronic pain syndromes. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and trigger point shockwave therapy (TPST) are highly effective, non-surgical applications for the treatment of chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system. The PiezoWave has significantly expanded the range of applications available to treat myofascial pain syndromes. The extracorporeal focused shockwave allows a precise diagnosis and therapy of active and latent trigger points. Trigger points are thickened, pain-sensitive points within a tense muscle which trigger pain – even at locations distant from the trigger point.


Mode of operation

At the heart of the Richard Wolf PiezoWave is the outstanding performance of the compact piezo shockwave source. The unit is simple to use. All important parameters can be set and monitored. The penetration depth of the therapy source can be varied by using gel pads of different thicknesses. A further advantage is the energy coupling over a large area with an aperture angle of 94°. This lowers the energy density on the skin surface, reducing pain. 20 intensity levels permit a finely adjusted application of energy without requiring sedation during treatment.

Different gel pads of varying thicknesses are used to vary the penetration depth, allowing a precise treatment of the different trigger points and areas.
