In our opinion, piezo-electric shockwaves represent the benchmark of shockwave technology for the stone-lithotripsy and shockwave therapy.

The shockwave energy for this highly effective and virtually painless treatment is generated by several thousand piezo-ceramic crystals. They are arranged as a mosaic and aligned exactly with the therapy focus.  When excited by a high-voltage pulse the cylinder-shaped piezo-ceramic elements expand briefly along their axis by a few micrometers. The precise focus and nonlinear dissemination of the pulse results in steepening at the point of focus, creating shockwaves.

A further innovation, a two-layer shockwave source, consists of two piezo-ceramic layers arranged one above the other. The two ceramic layers are individually excited by a high-voltage pulse generator. The cumulative energies of the two layers add up at the therapy focus for the best therapeutic success.

The precisely defined focus zone offers optimal protection of the surrounding tissue. The energy density is so low that patients usually do not experience superficial or deep pain.
